Tall athletes can't stretch their legs in container beds at Asian Games, official says

Indian athletes faced significant logistical challenges upon their arrival in Japan for the 2026 Asian Games. The men's team, in particular, was reportedly left without breakfast at their hotel in Tsukuba, a situation that left several athletes without food for the day. Upon checking in at around 10am, the athletes waited over four hours before being informed by hotel staff that breakfast was not on the agenda.

Some athletes managed to procure sustenance from outside the hotel, while others went without food entirely. Additionally, the designated bus to the training facility never arrived, further exacerbating the logistical difficulties. The Indian contingent, comprising both men's and women's teams along with their coaches, is lodged in three hotels situated more than four kilometers away from the training ground.

To add to the inconvenience, the athletes had to travel approximately four kilometers for both lunch and dinner. Their meals were limited to rice, soybeans, and an Indian restaurant's offerings of rice, roti, and chicken. The athletes also lacked a tailored diet and regular access to fruit, a relatively costly item in Japan. The 2026 Asian Games have already been marred by numerous issues, including poor facilities, bed shortages, visa delays for some athletes, and concerns over venue leaks due to heavy rain.

These ongoing problems have cast doubt on the arrangements made for the Indian athletics team as they gear up for the 20th edition of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
