Suspect on the run as KRA raids facility with illicit ethanol, tobacco

A suspect remains at large following a raid by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on a facility in Kimosop Central, Baringo County, where illicit alcohol, ethanol, and tobacco were detected. During the operation, KRA agents seized nine jerricans, each holding 30 liters of suspected ethanol, 40 sachets containing 200ml each of the illicit substance, and six kilograms of tobacco.

The total estimated value of the seized goods amounted to Ksh 226,292, with an estimated Ksh 170,212 in taxes at risk due to the illicit trade. The search was initiated based on intelligence and involved KRA enforcement officers from the North Rift who faced a well-secured facility, protected by more than six gates. Inside the premises, a secret underground room was discovered beneath a bathroom floor, designed to conceal the illicit products.

KRA intends to continue intelligence-led operations, in collaboration with other government agencies, to combat illicit trade, safeguard revenue and public health, and ensure accountability for those involved in illegal activities.
