Spider-Man: Brand New Day Surpasses Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Become North America's Highest-Grossing Movie of All Time

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken the title of the highest-grossing movie of all time in North America, surpassing the previous record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Tom Holland sequel has now earned $936.773 million domestically, just edging out 2015's The Force Awakens which has grossed $936 million. While inflation should be taken into account, Sony and Marvel owner Disney won't care as Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been a massive success, even surprising movie executives.

The film's popularity is attributed to its portrayal of Peter Parker's loneliness and struggle following the loss of his loved ones after a memory wipe spell. Director Tom Rothman said the movie's emotional relatability is what resonates with audiences worldwide. Brand New Day has now grossed a global total of $2.4 billion, making it the third highest grossing movie of all time after Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.

An inevitable Spider-Man sequel is already in the works with Destin Daniel Cretton set to return as director.
