Sindh has expanded public transport network: Sharjeel

The Sindh government is set to introduce a new Peoples Bus Service route connecting Larkana with Shahdadkot via Qambar, starting from September 18. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who oversees the Information, Transport and Mass Transit portfolios, announced the initiative during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department.

The meeting discussed expanding public transport services, introducing new routes, and improving commuter facilities throughout the province. The new route aims to provide a more reliable, affordable, and modern transportation link for residents of Larkana, Qambar, Shahdadkot, and nearby areas. It is expected to enhance connectivity between these three important urban centers.

Memon instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that all essential passenger facilities are in place when the service commences. He emphasized the government's commitment to expanding the Peoples Bus Service to cities and districts outside Karachi, offering citizens safe, comfortable, and budget-friendly public transportation options.

The Transport and Mass Transit Department also reviewed the progress of the Green Line and Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services. The Green Line had already garnered 88,000 passengers, while the Orange Line transported over 11,000 passengers daily, indicating a growing reliance on mass-transit services among the public.

Memon revealed that Pink Scooties would soon be distributed among eligible women in Mirpurkhas, underscoring the Sindh government's priority to improve women's mobility. Initiatives like Pink Scooties and Pink Buses aim to provide women with safer and more convenient transportation alternatives.

Officials briefed the meeting on plans for additional double-decker and electric buses, and Memon directed the department to finalize routes and complete preparations for the new services as soon as possible. Attendees of the meeting included Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Behzad Memon, and other senior officials.
