Selangor MCA pushes UEC recognition, merit-based varsity entrance

SELANGOR MCA leader Lawrence Low revealed that roughly 630 delegates attended the state chapter's gathering today. In the 2026 convention, the party proposed full acknowledgement of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) for admission to public universities and government employment. The resolution urged the federal government to "fulfil its election pledges as soon as possible" by implementing a "fair, transparent and standardised" process for recognising the UEC.

While the government permitted UEC graduates to enroll in selected public higher education programs in May, the available options are limited to four specific bachelor's degrees. The Selangor MCA also advocated for a review of the admission procedures for STPM, matriculation, and foundation programs, as well as the public university admission system (UPU), emphasizing that admissions should be based on merit and equal opportunities for all qualified students.

After the event, Low informed reporters that approximately 630 people participated in the discussion on politics, party matters, education, culture, and the economy. Additionally, the Selangor MCA suggested reviewing guidelines for non-Muslim places of worship in light of public complaints about demolitions and parking issues, with a committee led by Petaling Jaya MCA youth chief Andy Teoh to examine the legal aspects.

The party also requested consultation with pig farmers and industry operators regarding livestock farming policies and promised assistance for those impacted by the statewide ban on pig farming. On the economic front, Selangor MCA pushed for the replacement of goods and services tax with sales and service tax, e-invoice system, and the establishment of a special economic committee to coordinate the government's response to global economic risks.

The party also advocated for stricter verification and monitoring of foreign nationals and refugees, particularly Rohingya, and a review of the migrant worker recruitment system.
