Saudi Arabia says Houthi drone targeting Mecca destroyed

New York — Saudi Arabia has warned that Houthi threats in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait jeopardize global trade and supply chains, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding maritime corridors and freedom of navigation as a shared international responsibility. Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made this stance clear during a UN Security Council session addressing Houthi attacks on maritime navigation.

Al-Wasil firmly condemned Houthi aggression towards Saudi Arabia, as well as the targeting of commercial ships and vital trade routes, reiterating the nation’s right to protect its security. He disclosed that Saudi Arabia had established a multinational defensive maritime coalition to enhance maritime security and preserve freedom of navigation amidst escalating threats in the region’s crucial waterways.

Al-Wasil also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving a comprehensive and enduring political resolution to the Yemeni conflict, while reasserting its backing for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He implored the global community to shoulder its obligations in maintaining maritime corridors, securing the movement of international commerce and global supply chains, and upholding regional and international security and stability.
