Russia Rewards Captain Who Fired Flares at Danish Helicopter
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov awarded the commander of the corvette Soobrazitelny after the vessel fired two signal flares toward a Danish military helicopter in international waters. Moscow portrayed the incident as the prevention of a Danish “provocation,” while Copenhagen said the helicopter was conducting routine surveillance and one flare narrowly missed it.
