Rob Reiner’s son spared death penalty in parents’ murder case after family consulted

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that the decision not to pursue the death penalty in the murder case of Rob Reiner's parents will not be implemented. Nick Reiner, the son of renowned Hollywood director Rob Reiner, will face a trial for the killings of his parents, with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without parole.

The prosecutor's office considered the Reiner family's views during their "rigorous review," which included discussions with Nick's siblings, Jake and Romy. Nick Reiner, who is 33 years old, was arrested in December 2025 after his parents' bodies were discovered at their affluent Brentwood neighborhood home. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, including allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait.

Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele Singer, 70, were stabbed to death. The trial is not expected to begin before 2027.
