Relief for Karumandi residents as Waiguru opens new dispensary

Residents of Karumandi Ward in Kirinyaga County are now relieved as Governor Anne Waiguru officially opened a new dispensary on Tuesday. The Kavote Dispensary, which will serve approximately 5,000 residents, was established to provide essential healthcare services that were previously unattainable for many due to the need to travel more than five kilometers away.

Governor Waiguru emphasized that this investment was part of the county government's strategy to strengthen primary healthcare and deliver affordable, quality services within the community. The dispensary offers outpatient services, maternal and child healthcare, laboratory services, pharmaceutical services, and preventive healthcare.

Waiguru highlighted the importance of strengthening primary healthcare, as early detection and treatment of illnesses can prevent conditions requiring specialized treatment. Since the inauguration, the Governor has also contributed to expanding healthcare infrastructure across Kirinyaga, operationalising over 13 new dispensaries and health centres in various wards, as well as completing several others.

She further elaborated on the county's efforts to upgrade hospitals, such as the Level 4 transformation of Kimbimbi and Kianyaga hospitals and the expansion of services at the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital. In addition to healthcare improvements, Waiguru also distributed water pipes, tents, and chairs as part of the county's broader socio-economic empowerment programme.

These materials were provided to self-help groups and homesteads, with residents expressing gratitude for the assistance, which will enhance community events, improve agricultural production, and bolster local livelihoods.
