Raila said we stay: Arati reaffirms ODM’s commitment to broad-based govt

Kisii Governor and Deputy Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement, Simba Arati, has restated the party's commitment to a broad-based government, affirming that ODM leaders will respect the wishes of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Arati spoke during President William Ruto's tour of Nyanza region on September 16, 2026, honoring Odinga's position on broad-based cooperation.

"Sasa, kama wewe ulitushinda, Baba kabla hajalala akasema kwamba ‘mbaki katika broad-based’," Arati asserted. The governor welcomed Ruto's decision to wear an ODM-branded cap, noting the excitement it generated among party members and supporters. Reflecting on the 2022 election, Arati noted that Ruto had defeated Odinga in a close contest, emphasizing the shift in political dynamics.

He contrasted the current political setup with the previous administration, highlighting the resources and political support available then. "Wakati jamaa mwingine huyu sponsor alikuwa kwa ofisi. Hata ile pesa alikuwa anatoa, alikuwa anatoa kama peremende," Arati explained. Seeking to underline ODM's presence in Awendo, Kisii County, Arati asked residents if they wanted to support another political party.

"Hapa Awendo kuna chama kingine tena mnataka tusimame nacho, kweli? Ni chama cha ODM," he said. These remarks highlight the ongoing political significance of ODM's relationship with Ruto's administration as both parties prepare for the 2027 General Election.
