Queen Suthida showcases Thai craft on Vietnam state visit

Queen Suthida, the consort of Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn, showcased Thai textile and handicraft traditions during a state visit to Vietnam, arriving in Hanoi on September 14 for a three-day visit marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. She wore a dark-grey mudmee silk dress and carried a handwoven yan lipao bag made by a Narathiwat artisan.

Mudmee is a traditional Thai ikat weaving technique, while yan lipao is a southern Thai basketry craft made from a climbing vine. The Queen's accessories included flower-petal brooches, sapphire and diamond earrings, and dark-brown yan lipao bead embroidery. The visit is the first state trip to Vietnam by Thailand's King and Queen since diplomatic relations were established in 1976.
