Qatar Cabinet approves draft law on precious metals and gemstones

On Wednesday, the Qatar Cabinet convened at the Amiri Diwan to discuss various matters of national importance. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani led the session.

The opening agenda item was a reaffirmation of Qatar's strong condemnation of recent attacks by the Houthi group in Saudi Arabia. These attacks, involving ballistic missiles and drones, targeted civilian areas in Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif, causing injuries and material damage. The attacks were described as shameful aggression that disregarded civilian lives and violated Saudi sovereignty, breaching international law.

The Cabinet also reiterated its condemnation of attacks on the East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia by drones from Iraq, resulting in casualties and material damage. It emphasized that targeting civilian and economic facilities is a condemnable act and a violation of international law. Qatar affirmed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for any legitimate measures taken to protect the Kingdom's sovereignty and security.

Another concern addressed by the Cabinet was the renewed attacks by Iran against Jordan, violating Jordan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The attacks were called a blatant breach of international law and good-neighborly relations.

Turning to domestic matters, the Cabinet approved a draft law on precious metals and gemstones, aimed at modernizing the legislative framework to meet international standards and market requirements. The law seeks to regulate related activities, strengthen the supervisory role of the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology, and ensure product quality and consumer safety.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a draft decision to reorganize the Permanent Committee for the Registration of Pharmaceutical Companies and Their Products. The decision aims to keep up with modern developments in pharmaceutical regulation, ensuring efficient and effective committee operations.

The Cabinet also reviewed a monitoring report from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education on the implementation of the National Framework for Promoting Values and Morals. It decided to continue overseeing the framework's objectives in coordination with relevant entities. The framework, proposed by the Shura Council, aims to preserve national identity and social cohesion while instilling authentic principles in the younger generation in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Finally, the Cabinet reviewed reports on the activities, projects, and progress of Qatar Tourism, its participation in the International Labour Conference, and the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, taking appropriate decisions on these matters.
