Province pitches soybean crushing plant to potential investors

Brandon — The Manitoba government is seeking to build a soybean crushing plant and is looking for investors to make it a reality. The First annual payment for the facility is $205.00 plus GST for one year, with automatic renewal at $233.00 plus GST every 52 weeks, a 10% discount off the regular annual price of $259.35. This investment offer is available to new and qualified returning subscribers only, with the option to cancel at any time.

The proposed soybean crushing plant is part of several projects the NDP government showcased at the international investment summit in Toronto this week. Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn emphasized the potential for new opportunities for provinces and Canada at large. Soybeans have been a popular topic during recent trade missions in parts of Asia, leading to a push for discussions about a crushing facility that would process soybeans grown in the province.

Currently, there is no soybean crushing facility in Manitoba. The proposed plant would be located in western Manitoba, but Kostyshyn hasn't confirmed this location at this stage. He stated that they will explore all options, including western, southern, and central regions, as Westman is the most promising contender due to existing agricultural infrastructure in the area. Manitoba produces 28% of Canada's soybeans.
