Practical steps taken to protect environment: CM

LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, announced practical measures aimed at environmental protection and a transition towards a greener future for the province in her message on the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The ozone layer acts as a protective barrier against the sun's harmful rays, making its preservation crucial for safeguarding future generations from environmental changes.

She highlighted that Punjab had recently introduced its first comprehensive environmental policy aimed at achieving a "green future." Key priorities of the provincial government included tree plantation, measures to curb smog, and the promotion of clean energy sources. Over 50,000 acres of land were utilized for plantation efforts, resulting in the successful planting of 50 million trees across the region.

In line with the province's clean-energy vision, electric bus services were being expanded to reach every district and tehsil, while electric bikes were being provided to students, women, and other citizens. The CM further emphasized the introduction of green taxis as additional means of promoting environmentally-friendly transportation options.

Maryam Nawaz claimed that the amount of work accomplished for environmental protection in the past two and a half years surpassed what could have been achieved in several decades. She asserted that Punjab was progressing towards a more sustainable future and pledged to continue the journey toward a safer environment. The chief minister called upon citizens, especially young people, to embrace environmentally-friendly lifestyles and actively contribute to the protection of the ozone layer.
