Police strengthen security in Anambra schools for new session

The Anambra State Police Command has begun increased security measures in schools and key locations throughout the state as students return for the new academic year. According to a statement from the police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, this move aligns with the Inspector-General of Police's "Safe School Initiative." The operation, overseen by ACP Harrison Oruruo, involves police officers, other security agencies, and relevant partners to ensure safety in designated schools and strategic areas across the state.

The primary goals of this deployment are to bolster security around educational institutions, educate pupils and students on personal safety, assist them with safe road crossings, and provide other policing services to foster a secure learning environment. Furthermore, the command aims to strengthen collaboration among the Police, school authorities, teachers, parents, guardians, local communities, and other stakeholders to promptly identify, prevent, and respond to security threats near schools.

Police personnel have been instructed to remain highly visible, monitor school activities, assist students, especially during peak arrival and departure times, and respond swiftly to any security concerns.

CP Nnanna Ama of the Anambra State Command reiterated the force's dedication to protecting children, teachers, school officials, and the entire school community. He encouraged school authorities, parents, guardians, and students to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious persons, activities, or emerging security issues to the police or other relevant security agencies.

The commissioner emphasized that security is a shared responsibility and urged all stakeholders to maintain open communication with the Police and other security agencies to ensure timely intervention.

CP Ama assured Anambra residents that the command will continue to enhance security visibility, intelligence-led policing, community engagement, and proactive response around educational institutions throughout the state. He wished all pupils, students, teachers, and other school members a safe, peaceful, and successful academic session.
