Plateau Lauds Army Chief for Establishing New Units to Protect Vulnerable Communities

The Government and citizens of Plateau State have commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for setting up extra Nigerian Army divisions and units in vulnerable regions of the state. They view this move as a crucial step to boost security, build trust among residents, and reinforce the ongoing peace in the area.

Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo expressed the state government's gratitude during a meeting with Shaibu in Jos. She specifically praised the establishment of the 24th Armour Brigade in Langtang and its associated units in Mangu, Wase, and Shendam, noting that their strategic placement would boost security coverage and boost the troops' ability to respond rapidly to threats in at-risk communities.

She was optimistic that the increased military presence would increase public confidence, enhance early responses to security threats, and greatly contribute to maintaining peace across the state. Piyo urged for the stationing of more personnel and equipment to fully activate the newly created units and further strengthen security throughout the state.

Shaibu promised that additional troops, including another battalion, would be sent to Plateau State to reinforce existing divisions and boost the Army's ability to handle current and emerging security issues. The President, as the Army's Commander-in-Chief, had also authorized the recruitment of an additional 20,000 soldiers to bolster the newly established divisions and units nationwide.

Shaibu emphasized that expanding the Army's reach in Plateau State aimed to improve operational coverage, improve responsiveness, and provide greater security to at-risk communities. The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, revealed that the COAS also called on relevant parties and the private sector to help the federal government by backing initiatives that would improve the effectiveness and long-term success of security efforts.

Shaibu urged the people of Plateau State to continue helping the troops by providing reliable information and embracing dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's dedication to collaborating with the Plateau State Government, other security organizations, and communities to maintain the progress achieved and create a safe environment where economic activities, investment, and sustainable development can thrive.
