PIMS Hospital Fails 60% Performance Audit

The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has fallen short of meeting around 60 percent of the indicators evaluated in its recent performance audit, garnering a mere 39.7 percent compliance, falling short of the desired 90 percent target. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to rectify the situation, mandating the implementation of short-term measures to enhance PIMS within a three-month timeframe.

These measures encompass upgrades to the fire safety system and refining various hospital operations. The prime minister emphasized the necessity of aligning PIMS with international standards and urged authorities to seek guidance and recommendations from the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) for improving fire safety systems.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) report and underscored the need for their implementation. The prime minister outlined the improvement plan to encompass aspects such as medication availability and ensuring hospital facilities remain completely free of cost. Additionally, he directed the appointment of reputable personnel at PIMS and ordered the preparation of a comprehensive long-term plan for its enhancement.

In a separate instance, the prime minister ordered an audit of Polyclinic Hospital to uncover irregularities and devise a restructuring plan. Moreover, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) was tasked with ensuring compliance with fire safety requirements at all public and private hospitals in Islamabad, including conducting fire safety audits of public and private offices and buildings throughout the capital.

The CDA and relevant authorities were instructed to implement required safety measures following the audits.
