PH has yet to discuss Melaka polls with Rauf, says Amirudin

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan election director Amirudin Shari revealed that no talks have taken place with Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh regarding cooperation for the upcoming state election. Amirudin, who also serves as PKR vice-president and Selangor Menteri Besar, stated he has yet to discuss the matter with Rauf.

The decision on dissolving the Melaka Legislative Assembly lies with the Chief Minister, according to Amirudin. He told reporters after inaugurating the 2026 Islamic Book Festival at the Putra Mosque Auditorium that inquiries should be directed to Rauf, as he will determine the timing of the dissolution. Following dissolution, further negotiations might occur, he added.

The Melaka Chief Minister's Office refuted a rumor claiming that Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri, and Rauf had signed a document to dissolve the state assembly on the same day. Norhafizah Mohd Sati, head of Communications and Media at the Chief Minister's Office, confirmed that they were unaware of any meeting between the two leaders.

When asked about Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's request for those seeking to remove BN from the unity government to do so formally, Amirudin replied that there was no need to prolong the matter at the moment. Instead, the government should address such issues when the Cabinet meets. He emphasized that the government is currently concentrating on resolving economic concerns and matters of public interest.

Regarding the priest and nun joke circulated by Sepang Umno division chief and Dengkil state constituency coordinator Datuk Noorazli Said, Amirudin indicated that the matter would be discussed at the Selangor executive council meeting if deemed necessary.
