Parliamentary committee adopts confirmation hearing report for Supreme Court justice nominee

The parliamentary committee confirmed the appointment of Supreme Court Justice nominee Kim Sung-soo on Wednesday, clearing the path for his official designation to the nation's highest court. This decision followed a confirmation hearing held by the special parliamentary committee on Monday. The Democratic Party of Korea, the ruling party, commended Kim, noting his honest and reflective answers that reflected his dedication to political impartiality and judicial independence.

However, the main opposition People Power Party voiced their disapproval, questioning his eligibility and suitability for the position due to concerns about his qualifications and political neutrality as a Supreme Court justice. The confirmation process will conclude once a vote is taken in a parliamentary plenary session, scheduled for Thursday, followed by the formal appointment by President Lee Jae Myung.

Should the approval be granted, Kim will become the first Supreme Court justice to assume office under the Lee administration.
