Paralyzed A’s minor leaguer Ryan Lasko leaves hospital more than two months after spinal-cord injury

West Orange, New Jersey (AP) — Ryan Lasko, a 24-year-old minor league prospect for the Athletics, has been discharged from a rehabilitation hospital following a spinal-cord injury sustained in an outfield collision. The incident occurred on June 30, leaving Lasko paralyzed from the chest down, affecting both arms. Upon his release on Wednesday, Lasko celebrated his exit with a "clap out" ceremony at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where he had been staying for two months.

His dominant right arm, used for throwing and hitting, is weaker, and his legs and feet are gradually regaining sensation. Lasko expressed uncertainty about the future, focusing on his immediate goals and adapting to his new reality. He is eager to return home to enjoy a home-cooked meal and resume his offseason travel plans with girlfriend Alli Graff.

Lasko's mother, Patti, praised his dedication and optimism, highlighting his progress despite the long and challenging journey ahead.
