Nutzfahrzeuge: Ausweg aus dem teuren Diesel – Das sind die neuen E-Transporter auf der IAA

The growing demand for heavy-duty electric trucks is evident at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hanover, Germany. With over 150 debuts, the focus is on newly developed electric transporters, including the Renault Trafic E-Tech Electric, set to launch in Germany in spring 2027. This vehicle, based on a new 800-volt platform, offers up to 470 kilometers of WLTP range and up to 600 kilometers in city driving with its 81-kWh battery.

Renault highlights a 5.8-cubic-meter load volume and a 1.25-tonne payload, fitting easily into many garages.

Kia's new electric transporter, the PV5, also made its Hannover debut, while the larger PV7, with up to 5.35 meters in length, is scheduled to hit the market in 2027. The PV7's electric platform, 800-volt technology, and 8-cubic-meter battery promise versatility for logistics and other commercial uses. Chinese brand Farizon presents the V7E and SV models, both compact electric transporters designed for urban and regional applications with low ground level loading and wide side loading options.

Ford and Maxus offer electric solutions across various sizes, while Stellantis' portfolio includes Citroën Berlingo, Jumpy, Opel Combo, Vivaro, and Peugeot Partner and Expert electric transporters. The shift towards electric trucks is also driven by rising diesel fuel prices, with Renault's new E-Trafic boasting a 10% overall cost advantage over its diesel counterpart, particularly when considering long-term operational costs. Investing in solar charging infrastructure can further offset higher upfront costs.

The IAA transportation exhibition also highlights the importance of charging infrastructure, energy management, and digital fleet control. While electric trucks may not be suitable for every business, they offer significant advantages for companies with predictable routes and overnight charging opportunities. The main barrier to adoption remains the perception of the technology's limitations, but the growing experience with first-generation electric trucks suggests that range and charging speeds are rapidly improving.
