NPP alleges executive, administrative confusion over Arabic, Chinese language policy

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Ghanaian government of causing "executive and administrative confusion" around the implementation of Arabic and Chinese language policies in the country's elementary schools. Dr. Keabena Bempah Tandoh, a spokesperson for the party's Policy Committee on Education and a former Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), made these allegations during an interview on Joy FM's Newsnight.

According to Dr. Tandoh, the discord lies between the presidency, the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). He referred to reports claiming that NaCCA held a national training workshop for basic school teachers on the Chinese language curriculum, which he alleged contradicts President John Mahama's statement that no such policy exists.

Dr. Tandoh questioned why state institutions would allocate resources for teacher training and curriculum development when the President maintains the policy hasn't been officially approved. This situation, he argued, raises broader issues about governance and administrative coordination within the education sector. Dr. Tandoh warned that such inconsistent directives not only harm the credibility of the government but also affect hardworking teachers, dedicated parents, and students who ultimately bear the brunt of the uncertainty.
