No breakthrough yet in probe into murder of woman, her three children in Karachi

KARACHI: The police have so far made minimal progress in the murder investigation of a woman and her three children, whose bodies were found bludgeoned to death in their Surjani Town residence on Monday evening. The victims, Mehwish Danish, 34, and her children Hasnain, 6, Mirha, 8, and Ashmeera, 3, were laid to rest at a local cemetery, where their final moments were witnessed by mourners.

A case has been filed, and an investigation is underway to uncover the motive and identify the perpetrator(s). Dr Summaiya Syed, a police surgeon, stated that post-mortem examinations conducted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital revealed multiple head injuries, indicating the mother was killed with blunt instruments like an iron rod or stick, while the children suffered fatal head injuries from impact with a hard surface.

On Tuesday, a case under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered against unidentified individuals, as per Surjani SHO Nasir Mehmood. It seems the assailant may be acquainted with the family. However, investigators are currently concentrating on technical aspects, utilizing tools such as geo-fencing, call detail records (CDRs), and digital video recorder (DVR) footage.

They have questioned Mehwish's husband, Danish, but have yet to obtain any substantial leads. The family is in a state of profound shock, and investigators have decided to prioritize technical evidence for now.
