No. 5 Miami is showing off its depth on offense after 2 blowout wins to open the season

Coral Gables, Fla. — In their opening two games of the season, Miami's fifth-ranked Hurricanes (2-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) displayed their offensive depth through a string of blowout victories. Quarterback Darian Mensah connected with wide receiver Malachi Toney on nearly every pass, something the team intentionally aimed to avoid, aiming to spread the ball around instead.

Miami's offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson emphasized the team's desire not to rely solely on Mensah, explaining, "We don’t want to be a throw-the-ball-to-Mali offense." This season, Miami leads the nation in various offensive statistics, including yards per game, yards per play, completion percentage, and first downs per game.

The team has also scored 11 touchdowns while incompleting just seven passes, a ratio unmatched since at least 2000. The team's offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson attributed their success to trusting in their players and building strong relationships off the field, which translates to improved performance on the field. With 18 different players having caught a pass, six different running backs, and three quarterbacks with at least five completions, Miami clearly demonstrates its depth and confidence in its roster.
