NDLEA seizes N2bn worth of illicit drug in Delta

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Delta State has made significant seizures of illicit drugs between July 2025 and September 2026, according to the state NDLEA commander, Hililu Hamidu. The agency recovered a total of 2.446497 tonnes of illicit drugs, valued at an estimated N2 billion. These drugs included 1.387751 tonnes of Cannabis Sativa, 81.023 kilogrammes of cannabis seeds, and various other substances such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, Molly, tramadol, Swinol/Rohypnol, diazepam/bromazepam, Exol-5, Cocodamol, and laughing gas (nitrous oxide).

Hamidu also revealed that the command secured 248 convictions during the period, with 223 cases still pending before the courts. The recovered drugs were part of a series of major operations, including a raid on a warehouse at Oko Market, Asaba, where substances with a street value of over N150 million were seized. Additionally, the agency intercepted three trucks loaded with codeine and psychotropic substances, valued at N150 million and N100 million respectively.

During the reporting period, the NDLEA counselled 693 drug-dependent individuals, consisting of 463 males and 230 females. Hamidu emphasized that the agency is committed to preventing Delta State from being used as a route or storage place for illicit drugs.
