NA panel directs PFF to align constitution, rules with FIFA requirements

ISLAMABAD - A parliamentary committee instructed the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) on Tuesday to align its constitution and rules with FIFA regulations due to concerns about football governance. The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination, led by Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, assessed the PFF’s efforts to reinvigorate the sport after years of inactivity and uncertainty.

PFF President Mohsin Gilani presented an overview of the federation’s recent accomplishments, performance, and future plans during the briefing. He announced that the national football team secured its first international trophy victory, symbolizing progress after a challenging period. However, committee members stressed that the achievement did not signify overall improvement in the country’s football landscape and emphasized the necessity of consistent efforts to reverse the decline.

They were informed that the PFF had been inactive for an extended period until the election of new leadership, including the president, about a year ago, following FIFA's guidance. The committee was made aware that certain PFF rules and constitutional provisions were inconsistent with FIFA regulations, to which the federation assured that they were addressing the discrepancies.

The committee recommended that the PFF harmonize its constitution and rules with FIFA requirements to enhance governance and football development. Gilani expressed that rehabilitating football infrastructure was a top priority and that talented players were being identified through a nationwide talent-hunt program. Members stressed that investments in grounds, academies, and fundamental infrastructure were crucial, but they also emphasized that the PFF must intensify its efforts to revive football.

Separately, the committee recommended establishing a sports complex on WAPDA land in Haripur, but WAPDA raised flood concerns. A joint committee was established to evaluate the site and submit a feasibility report within a month.
