Mumbai: 5-Year-Old Girl Suffers Severe Burns After Falling Into Boiling Oil At Lower Parel Street Food Stall; 2 Arrested

Mumbai, September 16, 2026: Two street food vendors, Sudesh Shriram Pal and Lalji Nandkumar Pal, have been arrested after a five-year-old girl suffered severe burn injuries after accidentally falling into a pan of boiling oil at a Lower Parel food stall. The incident occurred on September 14 when the girl, who was with her father, Kalim Ahmed Shaikh, 40, went to a nearby stall operated by the accused duo.

While she was there, she fell into an iron wok containing boiling oil, which the vendors had left on the pedestrian pathway. The girl's father rushed her to Potdar Hospital, where she was subsequently transferred to Masina Hospital for further treatment. The vendors were detained by the N. M. Joshi Marg police after receiving information about the incident and have been charged under Sections 125(b) and 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for their alleged negligence.
