Milliarden-Deal: Fokussierung auf KI-Chips: Infineon verkauft Teil seines Speichergeschäfts

Munich - Semiconductor manufacturer Infineon has sold a portion of its memory chip business to Taiwanese rival Winbond for approximately one billion euros. The deal, announced on Wednesday, includes a portfolio of NOR-Flash storage and F-RAM products. The company reports that around 350 employees from ten countries will join Winbond as a result of the sale, resulting in an annual revenue loss of about 350 million euros.

Infineon's largest chipmaker will reportedly produce the products in the future through contract manufacturers. The transaction is planned for the second half of 2027. Winbond intends to run the acquired business as a standalone company based in Silicon Valley. Infineon's chief of the automotive division, Peter Schiefer, explained the sale in a statement: "The transaction allows Infineon to realign the portfolio and capital allocation even more towards the key growth drivers."

Memory chips are only a peripheral business for Infineon, which is heavily focused on power management semiconductors and microcontrollers used for specialized tasks, such as in vehicles.
