Meta’s Next Smart Glasses May Drop the Camera

Meta is working on a new line of smart glasses without a camera, potentially ready for release by October, according to The Information. The company might showcase the new model, dubbed Luna, at its September 23-24 Connect developer conference. The upcoming glasses are expected to have two styles, Clubmaster and Burbank. Unlike current Meta smart glasses, Luna will lack a camera entirely.

Instead, the device will feature six built-in microphones and speakers near the wearer's ears, enabling voice interaction with Meta AI. A button on the side will provide quick access to the AI assistant. The glasses are also rumored to have slimmer temples, making them resemble more conventional eyewear. However, privacy concerns surrounding Meta's existing smart glasses have followed the company.

Critics have dubbed the product "pervert glasses" due to the potential for secret recording or harassment. Meta has attempted to address these issues by including an LED light indicator for recording and updating the feature to prevent tampering. Meta may target hesitant buyers who have avoided purchasing their camera-equipped glasses due to privacy concerns with the camera-free Luna design.
