Meghna Gulzar recalls working with Irrfan Khan at Expresso: ‘He made me look good’

Director Meghna Gulzar, known for films such as Raazi, Sam Bahadur, and Talvar, recently discussed her collaborations with various actors on The Indian Express series Expresso. During the conversation, she shared insights into her experiences working with actors like Irrfan Khan, Deepika Padukone, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, and Tabu.

Meghna found working with Irrfan Khan to be the easiest, as he often made her look good in every scene. However, she acknowledged that it was difficult to determine his perspective in Talvar. With Vicky Kaushal, she experienced a telepathic working relationship, where she didn't need to complete a sentence for him to understand her intentions.

Alia Bhatt's spontaneity and instinctiveness made her a risk, as she sometimes put herself in danger during her performances. Tabu's easy part was her strong performances, but the hierarchical aspect of directing a senior actor presented challenges. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan proved to be proficient actors, requiring minimal direction from Meghna. The immense trust they placed in her made it difficult for her to manage the responsibility.
