Martha Stewart thinks AI can make homeownership less complicated

Martha Stewart, known for her expertise in home care, has now turned to technology with her latest venture, Hint. The AI-powered app, launched in July, aims to simplify home maintenance for homeowners. According to Stewart, who co-founded Hint with Yih-Han Ma and Kyle Rush, the idea emerged from her desire to create a "home organizer" that could streamline tasks related to utilities, home upkeep, and maintenance.

Stewart explained that the app uses data layers and proprietary technology to consolidate a home's information, eliminating the need for homeowners to sift through scattered manuals, emails, and notes. Instead, users can simply input appliance serial numbers, and Hint will provide care instructions. Once entered, manuals can be discarded.

Hint's primary target demographic is millennial first-time homebuyers, but the app can also assist older homeowners, particularly those aging in place. The company's co-founder and CEO, Yih-Han Ma, emphasized that Hint can empower users by building their confidence in navigating homeownership. The app's core functions extend beyond remembering service schedules—the company also aims to create a comprehensive record of each home's maintenance and improvements over time.

Investor Brian Kelly believes Hint has the potential to increase the resale value of properties, as it tracks maintenance records and ensures homeowners are taking proper care of their investments. When it's time to sell, Hint Homes will provide a detailed maintenance history that could potentially boost the home's market value.
