He met with the media on Wednesday, as Toronto's training camp began with physicals, and showed his support for new general manager John Chayka, who had led a frantic 19-week process since taking charge in May. Matthews spoke highly of Chayka's impact, stating that he had made "some great changes" to the roster. The Maple Leafs, who finished last in the Atlantic Division last season with just 78 points, are set to kick off the regular season on September 29 at home against the Montreal Canadiens.
