Lumpy Skin Disease Spreads To 10 Rajasthan Districts, Over 10,400 Cattle Cases Reported

Lumpy skin disease, a viral infection impacting cattle, has expanded to ten eastern Rajasthan districts, with 10,403 cases confirmed by the state Animal Husbandry Department. Of the affected animals, 6,905 have recovered. Authorities are enhancing surveillance, treatment, and containment measures to prevent the disease from spreading to unaffected districts.

Animal husbandry officials have been instructed to remain vigilant in uninfected districts. Veterinary teams are conducting door-to-door surveys in affected regions to identify sick cattle and ensure timely treatment. To prevent the disease, livestock owners should be wary of lumps or swellings on their animals' bodies and separate sick animals from healthy ones, maintain cleanliness, and avoid exposure to mosquitoes, flies, and ticks.

If symptoms appear, immediate contact with a veterinary doctor is advised. Distressed cattle are being quarantined and treated in isolation centers across affected districts. Officials are also focusing on sanitation, disinfection, spraying, and fogging in these areas. Extra budgets are allocated for essential medicines and emergency supplies at the district level, with control rooms established at state and district levels, and rapid response teams formed at the block level to ensure swift treatment of infected animals.
