Landtagswahlen: Insa-Umfrage – SPD holt in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern weiter auf

In the run-up to the upcoming Landtag election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) is gaining ground, according to an Insa poll commissioned by the "Bild" newspaper, reports Berlin. The poll indicates the AfD securing 37 percent, while the SPD gains 35 percent. Other parties follow with a significant gap, with the Left at 10 percent and the CDU at 7 percent.

This would mark the worst result for the SPD in a Landtag election since the country's founding, while the Greens come in just over the 5 percent threshold at 5 percent, and the BSW trails at 3 percent, likely missing the cut-off for entry to the Landtag. The SPD has been in power alongside the Left since 2021, but the poll suggests a red-green coalition is no longer feasible.

However, a coalition with the Greens could still allow the current ruling parties to govern. The poll surveyed 1,000 people aged 16 and over in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from September 8 to 15, with a margin of error of plus/minus 3.1 percentage points. Recent polls by Infratest dimap for ARD and the Research Group for Elections for ZDF have put the SPD at 33 and 34 percent, respectively, while the CDU remains at 7 percent. The Left has been at 9 and 10 percent, and the Greens at 5 percent in both surveys.
