Lagos: Many rescued as multiple vehicles crash on Otedola Bridge

A series of vehicle collisions on Otedola Bridge in Lagos resulted in no fatalities, with all victims rescued by emergency services. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon and involved five vehicles, comprising two trucks, a trailer, a white Honda and a Lexus. LASEMA's LRT Tiger Squad was dispatched to the scene at 1:18 p.m. following a distress call and reached the location around 10 minutes later.

The collision was attributed to a mechanical failure in a containerized truck, causing the driver to lose control and strike three other vehicles, followed by a subsequent collision with another truck, leading to a significant pile-up. LASEMA activated its emergency protocol, coordinating efforts with LASTMA and the Nigeria Police Force to secure the area and prevent additional accidents.

Paramedics provided immediate medical attention to the injured, who were subsequently transported to the Trauma Centre for further care. Recovery operations are ongoing, with private towing and crane services assisting in the removal of damaged vehicles to restore normal traffic flow. LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the quick response of emergency responders and urged motorists to maintain vehicle upkeep, adhere to road safety rules, and drive cautiously on major highways.

Additionally, the agency encouraged residents to report emergencies promptly via the 767 or 112 emergency numbers.
