KT, KISTI launch Korea's 1st 400 Gbps super-fast data highway to US

KT, a leading telecommunications provider in Korea, has partnered with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) to inaugurate Korea's inaugural 400-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) international dedicated circuit connecting the two nations. This enhanced data highway aims to expedite the transfer of substantial research datasets, particularly in the realms of artificial intelligence, large-scale scientific endeavors, and astronomical studies.

The circuit establishes a direct link between KISTI's headquarters in Daejeon and Chicago, a pivotal point for research networks across North America and Europe. According to KT, the new connection amplifies bandwidth by four times, soaring from 100 Gbps to 400 Gbps, thereby facilitating faster, more reliable data exchanges for international scientific collaborations.

The surge in cross-border data exchange is attributed to the burgeoning reliance on vast data volumes in AI-driven research, massive scientific projects, and astronomical investigations. The upgraded network is anticipated to amplify the speed of transferring large research datasets, bolster global connectivity for Korea's national research network, and bolster support for international collaborative research endeavors.
