Kidnapped woman escapes from abductors in Plateau

A woman, who was kidnapped by suspected armed robbers on the Kassa–Barkin Ladi highway in Plateau State, has managed to escape on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The incident occurred after the abductors blocked the highway with stones, halting vehicles traveling along the route. Security experts report that the woman managed to break free from her captors early in the morning and subsequently made her way to safety.

She was subsequently taken to a hospital in Heipang, where she is receiving treatment for minor injuries sustained during the ordeal.

The incident prompted a swift response from Sector 4 troops of Operation Enduring Peace, who were deployed to the Alpha Guard location and cleared the highway. During their operations, the troops discovered a vehicle of a cream color, known as a Sharon vehicle, without a registration number at the scene. Security sources have stated that a team is currently on the ground to independently verify the circumstances surrounding the woman's escape, as well as the location from which she managed to flee.

Security agencies are expected to intensify their efforts to identify and apprehend the suspected kidnappers operating along the Kassa–Barkin Ladi route.
