Junior Caminero’s 2nd walk-off homer in 4 games gives the Rays a 2-1 win over the Athletics

Junior Caminero extended his impressive hitting streak with his second walk-off homer in just four games, propelling the Tampa Bay Rays to a 2-1 triumph over the Athletics on Tuesday night. The 23-year-old right fielder blasted a liner opposite field leading off the ninth inning, just inside the foul pole in right field. The hit was the AL-leading 41st home run of the season for Caminero, who previously hit his first career walk-off homer to defeat Houston on Friday.

Bryan Baker (3-2) delivered a perfect ninth inning, pitching without giving up a single run. Tampa Bay's offense, led by Chandler Simpson, contributed significantly to the victory. Simpson, who had started the night five points behind AL batting leader Yordan Alvarez, went 3 for 3 and raised his average to .308. Simpson contributed half of the Rays' six hits, including a second-inning double and a crucial slide catch to rob Shea Langeliers in the ninth.

The Athletics tied the game in the sixth when Henry Bolte crossed home plate on a wild pitch by reliever Ty Johnson. Griffin Jax (5-4) pitched five scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits and no walks. The Rays' bullpen sealed the deal by retiring the final 11 batters. The Athletics, however, mounted a late rally, with Griffin Jax working five innings and allowing only one unearned run on four hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts.

Nick Martinez (14-4, 2.92 ERA) is set to take the mound for the Rays against Oakland in the next game, facing LHP Brady Basso (1-2, 3.86).
