The third annual Coach Rodney Blue Charitable Run will take place on September 19 at Carl Sandburg College's Galesburg campus to honor the late cross country coach and raise funds for student-athletes. The event starts at 8 a.m. with an opening ceremony, followed by a 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m. and a 1K run/walk at 8:35 a.m. Registration fees are $30 for those 13 and older, $20 for children 12 and younger, and free for current Sandburg students.
Participants can register online or on-site. The race route begins in the circle drive outside the Science & Technology Center, passing through the bus lane in parking lot A and the Log City Trail. Proceeds will support the Coach Rodney Blue Cross Country Team Fund, which has raised over $14,500 for the Sandburg cross country program.
Coach Rodney Blue, who died in July 2024 at the age of 66, served as an assistant coach from 2011 to 2015 and as head coach of the men's and women's teams from 2015 onward. Under his leadership, the program achieved five Region 4 championships and had either a team or individual qualifier compete in the NJCAA national meet each season.
