Industrial production down by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU

In July 2026, euro area industrial output fell by 0.1% compared to the previous month, according to initial figures from Eurostat. The same decrease occurred in the EU in June 2026. However, when looking at July 2026 in relation to July 2025, industrial production remained unchanged in the euro area and rose by 0.3% in the EU. Monthly data by specific industry sectors within the euro area and EU in July 2026 showed mixed trends: intermediate goods production rose by 0.3% in the euro area and 0.4% across the EU; energy production increased by 0.9% in the euro area and 0.6% in the EU; capital goods production went up by 0.5% in the euro area and 0.3% in the EU; durable consumer goods production declined by 1.6% in the euro area and 1.3% in the EU.

Notably, the most significant declines were seen in Denmark (-4.2%), Bulgaria (-2.9%), and Lithuania (-2.4%). Conversely, Luxembourg (+4.5%), Croatia (+3.9%), and Ireland (+2.6%) recorded the most substantial increases. On an annual basis, July 2026 saw a 0.3% increase in euro area industrial output compared to July 2025, a 4.0% rise in energy production, a 1.7% increase in capital goods output, a 1.2% drop in durable consumer goods output, and a 4.5% decrease in non-durable consumer goods output.

In the EU, industrial production rose by 0.4% for intermediate goods, 2.5% for energy, 2.4% for capital goods, 0.5% for durable consumer goods, and 3.2% for non-durable consumer goods. Croatia (+7.2%), Lithuania (+6.5%), and the Netherlands (+8.2%) experienced the largest annual increases, while Bulgaria (-6.8%), Romania (-6.3%), and Belgium (-5.6%) recorded the biggest annual declines.
