India’s B-schools slip on intense global competition

India's prestigious business schools have slipped in global rankings according to QS's 2027 MBA list. While IIM Bangalore maintained its top position, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta experienced significant drops. IIM Bangalore fell from 52nd to 64th globally, IIM Ahmedabad dropped from 58th to 70th, and IIM Calcutta experienced the most pronounced decline, moving from 64th to 95th.

These changes occurred as global peers in the field of business education improved in areas such as entrepreneurship, alumni outcomes, return on investment, and diversity. Despite this, India's overall representation in MBA programs continued to expand. QS ranked 19 Indian institutions in 2027, a significant increase from seven schools in 2022 and five in 2020.

The expansion included five new entrants this year, with O.P. Jindal Global University ranking 171-180, Jaipuria Institute of Management in 301+, CHRIST University's School of Business and Management, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, and Vikrant University Gwalior in the 301+ range. The rankings also highlighted India's strong performance in diversity, with Woxsen School of Business ranking first in Asia and 33rd globally.
