Indian athlete's name reportedly missing from 2026 Asian Games accomodation list

The Philippines Tennis Association (PHILTA) has approached the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on behalf of Alexandra Eala, seeking an exemption from the mandatory China Open so that Eala can compete at the upcoming Asian Games. Eala, currently ranked world number 18, is the highest-ranked player in the women's singles draw at the Asian Games, which take place from October 1-4.

The Asian Games and the China Open, a WTA 1000 tournament, overlap in schedule, with the Asia Games beginning on October 1 and the China Open starting on September 30. Participating in the China Open without an official exemption could result in a ranking penalty and potential fines. PHILTA Secretary General John Rey Tiangco confirmed that PHILTA has formally requested an exemption, expressing support for Eala's decision to represent the Philippines.

Despite the WTA's potential penalties, Eala remains committed to competing in the Asian Games. Indonesian player Janice Tjen withdrew from the Asian Games due to an inability to obtain an exemption from the China Open. Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham Tolentino stated that Eala will participate in Nagoya as an expression of her dedication to her country.
