IGP engages Okada riders on road safety, registration

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno convened a meeting on September 16 with Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) leaders to bolster cooperation and enhance compliance with road safety measures. The gathering included members of the Police Management Board and association representatives. The focus was on issues affecting commercial motorbike riders and strategies to enhance their operations while promoting safer driving practices across Ghana's roads.

IGP Yohuno urged Okada riders to strictly follow traffic regulations and complete necessary training to improve their riding abilities and road safety. He also tasked ORAG with raising awareness among members about responsible road usage, believing these efforts could help decrease road accidents. The IGP directed the association to ensure all riders are correctly identified, registered, and comply with licensing and motorbike registration requirements.

This action aims to foster accountability among commercial motorbike riders and bolster road safety efforts.

ORAG President Michael Kofi Owusu pledged the association's dedication to collaborating closely with the Ghana Police Service to optimize the operations of its members. He stated that ORAG would back initiatives aimed at promoting road safety while working alongside the police to combat crime. IGP Yohuno assured the riders that the Police Administration would maintain ongoing interactions with the association to address concerns and strengthen the partnership between the police and commercial motorbike riders.
