I love Garmin's new Forerunner 170 Music smartwatch, but this deal for the superior Forerunner 265 makes it the better buy

Garmin’s Forerunner 170 is a popular running watch known for its impressive performance and smart features. The Music version, in particular, is ideal for phoneless short runs and other activities. It has earned a reputation for accuracy, as verified by my colleague Matt Evans’ testing. However, its price at AU$479 (AU$549 for the Music version) is not the lowest among fitness smartwatches.

This is why I discovered a great deal on Amazon for the older, yet more advanced, Forerunner 265. Priced at AU$498, it is nearly AU$50 cheaper than during recent sale events like EOFY and Prime Day.

The Forerunner 265 boasts a more accurate dual-band GPS technology, an extended battery life of 13 days, more size options, and even on-watch music storage. These enhancements make it a tough competitor for the best running watch in 2023. In fact, it was recently discounted by 38%, which brings it to its all-time low price on Amazon.

For those who prefer a smaller watch, Garmin offers the 42mm Forerunner 265S at the same price and in more colors. The Forerunner 265 also marked a significant milestone as it was the first small model to feature a touchscreen AMOLED display, making it resemble an Apple Watch or a Samsung Galaxy Watch. This display is technically superior to the Forerunner 170’s single-frequency multi-GNSS tracking, which is available only in the 170’s 43mm size.

The 265, available in 46mm and the smaller 265S at 42mm, provides more size options for different wrist dimensions.
