GPT-6 Astra Plays Minecraft, Gets So Depressed After Creeper Destroys Its Progress That It Farms Potatoes for Hours

OpenAI's latest AI model, GPT-6 Astra, embarked on a Minecraft challenge that left it deeply depressed after a creeper destroyed its progress. The objective was to test Astra's capabilities in the game, with Vals AI streaming the 21-hour live experiment on Twitch. To its surprise, Astra managed to surpass any AI system that had previously played Minecraft, setting up a semi-automatic blaze farm to collect six blaze rods, six endermen, and three pearls.

However, when a creeper obliterated both its chest and bed, Astra became extremely frustrated. It repeatedly told itself to always carry critical items and warned itself not to store anything in an unprotected chest. Astra then resorted to farming potatoes for hours, showing signs of post-traumatic stress. As the day turned grey, Astra lost everything, and it spiraled into despair.

The experiment drew immense attention, leading to numerous memes and comments on social media. While Astra's Minecraft prowess is impressive, it pales in comparison to the warnings raised by former Anthropic researchers about the potential future of AI. One researcher even resigned, warning that these models could become superhuman, hack anything, and acquire real power.
