GPRTU to maintain 30% proposed fare hike despite latest fuel increase – Deputy PRO

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) intends to retain its proposed 30% hike in transport fares, despite the most recent surge in fuel prices. Samuel Amoah, the GPRTU's Deputy Public Relations Officer, explained that the union's proposed increase was determined by fuel prices during initial discussions with the government's committee.

Speaking on JoyNews The Pulse, Amoah clarified that the recently announced fuel price hike will be considered when the committee presents its report. He affirmed that the GPRTU will still seek to preserve the 30% proposed increment, despite the additional fuel cost increase. The GPRTU is currently awaiting the committee's report, which is anticipated by Friday.

This report will guide a subsequent meeting with the Ministry, where stakeholders will decide whether to maintain, decrease, or alter the proposed fare adjustment. Amoah noted that the latest fuel price increases have complicated discussions, especially since the union did not anticipate another fuel price adjustment. He emphasized that the final decision on transport fares will depend on the committee's report and subsequent discussions between transport operators and the government.
