GNFS PRO reacts to viral video of driver’s mate cooking jollof in moving truck

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has expressed serious concerns regarding a viral video showing a driver’s mate cooking jollof rice inside a moving truck. The video, which has gained widespread attention online, depicts a member of the driver preparing food using an LPG cylinder and cooking utensils while the truck is in motion.

The GNFS Public Relations Officer, ADO1 Alex King Nartey, warned that such practices pose significant fire risks. He highlighted that firefighters responding to truck fires often find LPG cylinders and other cooking equipment inside the vehicles, sometimes in sufficient quantities to run a small restaurant. Nartey explained that combining an active flame from an LPG cylinder with combustible materials such as petrol, diesel, or engine oil within a moving vehicle creates a hazardous situation that could lead to a fire or explosion.

He emphasized that such actions not only endanger the driver and passengers but also put other road users and firefighters at risk. Nartey stressed the importance of roadworthiness and vehicle safety checks, urging that commercial trucks should be inspected for dangerous or inappropriate items that could significantly increase fire risks. He called on the public and commercial vehicle operators to prioritize fire safety and take preventative measures to avoid unnecessary hazards.
