Ghana TVET Service, DTI sign strategic partnership to employability, workforce competitiveness

The Ghana TVET Service (GTVETS) and the Design & Technology Institute (DTI) have finalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana. This public-private partnership aims to enhance employment and entrepreneurial outcomes for the country's youth by enhancing industry involvement in skills development, aligning with Ghana's industrialization and workforce development goals.

The collaboration merges GTVETS' national reach with DTI's expertise in industry-led skills development, institutional strengthening, and workforce readiness. Together, they will address key areas such as institutional strengthening, trainer and leadership development, Workplace Experience Learning (WEL), apprenticeships, dual TVET systems, digital transformation, quality assurance, research, monitoring, evaluation, and transition-to-work support.

GTVETS Director-General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis Adzroe highlighted that the partnership aims to equip young people with relevant, employable skills and noted that many graduates are unemployed due to a lack of practical industry skills. DTI Founder and President Ms. Constance Swaniker emphasized the shared commitment to strengthening Ghana's industrialization and employment ambitions, addressing gaps in trainer competencies, workplace exposure, industry links, skills data, and equipment utilization.

Under the new agreement, both organizations will conduct institutional assessments to bolster training delivery, trainer and leadership capabilities, institutional systems, and infrastructure utilization. The collaboration will also focus on strengthening workplace experience learning opportunities, industry liaison functions, apprenticeship models, and dual TVET systems, ultimately improving pathways to wage employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship through enhanced graduate tracking systems.
