GFA spends GH¢1.8m on Colts coaches development

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has allocated GH¢1.8 million over the past two seasons to train 600 coaches through its CAF Licence D Coaching Programme, aimed at strengthening grassroots football development. GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, announced this during the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football Season in Prampram. The three-year program targets 900 coaches, with the final phase expected to be completed this year.

The initiative aims to equip coaches with essential technical knowledge and skills necessary for guiding young players in the early stages of their football development. Okraku emphasized that the investment extends beyond coaching qualifications, highlighting the importance of providing quality guidance to young players at the grassroots level. He stated that this includes ensuring coaches understand technique, player development, safeguarding, discipline, and the responsibility of shaping a child's future.

Additionally, the GFA has invested US$100,000 annually over the past three years to supply footballs to Colts clubs, bringing the total expenditure to US$300,000. These investments are part of a broader strategy by the GFA to improve the foundation of football in Ghana, providing a sustainable pathway for young players to progress from Colts football to elite development programs, professional football, and eventually the national teams.

The association stresses that consistent investment in coaching, equipment, and grassroots structures is vital for developing the next generation of Ghanaian footballers.
