The future of Merz's center-right Christian Democratic Union appears increasingly uncertain, especially given that he assumed leadership just 16 months ago. If the results are unfavorable, the party might lose the mayor's office in Berlin, which they have held since 2023, and potentially fail to secure any seats in a state legislature for the first time, particularly if they fall below 5% of the votes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a region where their influence has been historically limited.
